Ismael, a shy young man who is disenchanted with life and cherishes literary ambition, makes acquaintance with Ernesto Ovalle, a renowned writer of romantic novels who, in old age, is facing a crisis. Because of the pressure of his editors and his insecurity regarding the quality of his own work, he hires Ismael to edit his novels and provide them with the substance they lack.
