This story of a woman’s evolution from the age of two to her thirties is told in a hybrid of styles, somewhere between a novel and a book of stories. The plot is set in Madrid and New York in the decades around the change of millennium, and is told in a direct style with fantastical touches. The protagonist keeps coming up against the rules of a society she does not understand. But year after year she gains control and loses innocence. Her sexuality —particularly such problems as abuse and stalking— is a recurring theme. Family, love and freedom are other key subjects of this book, which manages to be simultaneously crude and delicate.
